United Underwriters (UUI) was founded in 1974 by Edward J. Kuiper, with a vision to revolutionize life insurance brokerage.
What began in a modest space above a garage in Exeter, NH, has grown into a nationally recognized leader, serving thousands of brokers across the country. UUI is proud to be considered one of the pioneers in life insurance brokerage.
In 1979, Ronald D. Verzone joined the company and quickly rose to the role of President. A founding member of The Marketing Alliance, he played a pivotal role in shaping both organizations until his retirement in 2012.
Today, United Underwriters is led by President and sole owner Kathy J. Carlson, whose career with the company began in 1984. A trailblazer in the brokerage industry, she was instrumental in the development of three of the most widely used agency management systems in the marketplace. As one of the authors of The Guide to Underwriting an Impaired Risk—an internationally recognized reference manual—she continues to be a trusted advisor to company partners and vendors on critical industry matters.
