| United Underwriters was founded by
Edward J. Kuiper in 1974. We started over a garage in Exeter,
NH and now have three offices serving over 3,000 brokers nationwide.
We are located Exeter, New Hampshire, Avon, Connecticut, and
Germantown, Maryland (BSI, Inc.). We are recognized as one
of the pioneers in life insurance brokerage and have received
numerous awards and honors as a result of this distinction.
Ronald D. Verzone, CFP, LTCP joined United Underwriters
in 1979 as a broker. At the time, his primary responsibilities
were sales and management for MONY. Ron was a qualifying member
of the Million Dollar Round Table. He is a Certified Financial
Planner. He attended the University of Texas and the University
of Hartford. He holds a medical technology degree and a BA.
Ron is a Certified Insurance Consultant, Licensed Insurance
Advisor for Life and Health Insurance, and a Registered Investment
Advisor. Ron is President of United Underwriters, a principal
and Chairman of the Board of BSI., and Chairman of the Board
of The Marketing Alliance. He is also a past President of
Sub Centers and past Chairman of NAILBA.
Kathy J. Carlson joined us in 1984. She is Executive Vice
President and Chief Operations Officer. Kathy serves on the
Board of Directors of United Underwriters and BSI. She is
also an owner of BSI. Kathy is currently working towards her
CLU designation. She has authored and co-authored several
underwriting manuals and has been a key contributor to developing
and enhancing three of the most popular agency management
systems used by the brokerage marketplace. She has been advising
company partners and vendors on new business issues for 20
years. Kathy has been one of the most influential individuals
in the brokerage business regarding the implementation of
new technology to improve the new business process.
United Underwriters takes a very active role in the insurance
industry on a national level. We are active in Sub Centers;
a study group of Brokerage General Agencies promoting the
uninhibited exchange of ideas between member agencies, The
Marketing Alliance; a national marketing group of 75 agencies
active in the distribution of life, disability, annuity, and
long term care products, and The National Association of Life
Brokerage Agencies (NAILBA); the trade association of the
Independent Distribution System.
